Competitor.com’s Matt Fitzgerald talks to Kenyan Martin Lel after his first place finish at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon in New Orleans.

Matt: I’m here with the winner of the inaugural Rock n Roll Mardi Gras half marathon Martin Lel of Kenya. Congratulations Martin. Martin: Thank you so much. Matt: Was that what you expected out there? Was it a hard race? Martin: Yeah I think it was—my expectation was to win because I find my foot was so comfortable and I was to findout everything was going out well. Matt: Early on the race it seems like a very tight group so tight I noticed that you tripped over the heels of some of your fellow runners was that difficult for you to manage would you like to have gotten away from them earlier than you did? Martin: Yes although I – rest I found out I was really find so comfortable I tried to see that let me try to stellate my – and everything was going and of the rest. Matt: This must give you confidence going into the London Marathon in April. Martin: Yes of course I think it is one of the rest will give me good confidence on my preparation for the London Marathon. Matt: Now obviously you were concentrating on the race out there but did you get a chance to enjoy the city of New Orleans at all? Martin: So and so interesting the city, the people, the people are cheering, the people are friendly so I find that everybody was going to enjoy the rest the people and the city. Matt: Well congratulations again on the fine performance and good luck in London. Martin: Thank you so much.
