Chez: Hi I am Chez from London, my child is going off to college for the first time, how can I help her prepare for this transition? Vanessa Jensen: The fact that you are asking the question tells me you are on the right track already. The basic part here is communication and the more you talk to her now and the more you have talked to her over all these years, leading up to this point, the better off you are going to be. The other thing is keep in mind that once she is off to college, there is not a lot you can control. So the more you prepare her, and some including for the tough things, ask the tough questions, get her to help you work together to think about what she might do in different situations and help her know that no matter what, she can call you. So build in and develop that communication link constantly. That's the best thing you can do.
