MacBook Air - Tech Review When the MacBook Air firs took the market in January 2008, Mac people were so excited about it. For those of you who haven’t had a chance to check it out yet. Its main features of the fact that it super light and really thin. You just take a look here. See it’s less than a one-inch across there which is pretty phenomenal. When you’re comparing it to other laptops out on the market, it’s definitely one of the lighter ones. This one weighs in only three pounds. Even last than the regular MacBook which is five pounds. Today, we’re going to look at this as laptops as a potential for you as well as some peripheral items. First of all, let’s just look at the screen and the keyboard size. Well, it’s lighter and thinner. It still has a full 13-inch screen and full keyboard. So you’re not really sacrificing on that side of it. One thing that you do have to take into consideration though is it doesn’t have a DVD drive. So, what you’d have to go out and get the Air Mac Super Drive. Its $99.00, it’s a pretty much a plug-and-play device. I’m just going to pick it up here and show you the USB port on the side. As you can see the air only has one port which can be a little bit of a downside because the drive actually has to plug directly into the computer. You can't use a Hub or anything. So if that ports in use, you can't use a mouse, you can't use any of the other peripherals that use a USB. I just want to drive your attention over to this other device on the desktop here. It’s called the Time Capsule. It’s a 500 GB wireless hard drive. It’s designed to work with Mac OS X system called Leopard and more specifically its backup software called time machine. The two devices speak together to back up all of your important files and programs on here up to every single hour if you like. One of the other neat things about this little device is, it actually allows you to plug in a printer to it which can be accessed by any other computer on the wireless network that is set up to. This also acts as an airport card for any other computer in the area. To kind of getting a full all in one specific device that access it airport card, a backup hard drive as well as a way to connect this to another printer which is kind of cool. Its $539.00 which can be a little bit pricey but definitely worth it if you see the value in backing up your data to an external hard drive. Getting back to the MacBook Air, if you’re considering one of these you’re going to have to look at what you’re using it for. If you’re using it just for light weight things like running office or creating and editing basic documents its probably going to be okay but if you’re using it for more robust programs like video editing or creating music or graphics you might want to consider a different computer. It just depends on what you’re looking for and what you need. If want something small and light, go with the MacBook Air. If you need something a little bit more robust then you want to check out some of the other MacBook products or other PC products on the market.
