The announcement shocked the small mountain town; gasps could be heard in the crowd ... ” (Via CNN ) Leila was a third grader with three older siblings. She and her brother were home alone when the stabbing occurred. “Police say a 12-year-old boy encountered an intruder in his home, and the man ran away. The boy went to check on his sister and found that she had been stabbed to death.” (Via KSBW ) “It happened in Valley Springs, which is about 60 miles outside of Sacramento ... The girl was rushed to the hospital but did die.” (Via KGTV ) Originally, the suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man about 6 feet tall with long, gray hair. Neighbors even told police they saw the man running from the house. The search for her killer, which spanned several days, put the rural town under lockdown. Authorities launched a full-scale manhunt, interviewing all registered sex offenders in the area and searching attics and storage sheds for a suspect. “We’re doing a house-to-house search, and in some cases we're searching extensively into attics and storage sheds. It is a difficult area to search. It's rural, remote.” (Via KRCG ) “The attack set off a massive manhunt, but in the end, the boy's story just didn't add up. The investigation is ongoing.” (Via WWMT ) Authorities have not released evidence about the boy’s arrest. They are still searching for a motive.
