Melanie Raposo: Hi everybody! I'm Melanie Raposo and welcome to Mommy's Minute. If you're pregnant and working it's important to know about maternity leave and how it works? Maternity leave refers to the time an expecting mother takes off from work during or after pregnancy. Expecting mothers are allowed 12 weeks unpaid leave within the year of giving birth. Some women also combine their maternity leave with sick leave, vacation pay, and personal days. It's important to notify your employer of your pregnancy as soon as possible to discuss maternity plans. Your employer may also ask for a medical certificate but be rest assured that when you're return from your maternity leave, you'll be back to your original job with the same status, benefits, and pay.
