Host: We all like receiving cards around the holidays but sometimes sending them out just feels like a chore. I met up with one group that’s making it fun and easy to buy and send cards again. I’m here with Katherine Santer who’s introducing us today to Jack Cards, a card concierge who’ll make sure that you never miss an important event again. We’ve all had those days where you think, oh, my grandma’s birthday, I just forgot. Now, never have to forget again. Tell us about Jet Cards. Katherine: It’s a website called jackcards.com and essentially, we’re not taking the personal touch out of sending a greeting card. You’re still writing a message inside a greeting card, but what you can do is you can go to the website and upload your address book to the website and then add in everybody’s birthdays and anniversaries and holidays. Host: Any important events? Katherine: All the important dates, graduation, retirement, christenings and then select cards from our wide collection of cards for each event and each individual. And then we send the card to you just before the event so you can select to have the cards sent to you either two weeks or four weeks before a birthday and then you receive the card in the mail from Jack Cards with a stamped addressed envelope ready to go. So all you need to do is sign the card and then pop it back in the mailbox. Host: I love that because you’re still getting that personal touch. You’re not just sending a blanket card without signing, including personal message so that’s a great way to kind of add your own flare there. I guess, where did this idea come from? Because people are always forgetting? Katherine: Yes. Myself and my business partner, Kim, we’re both Australians living in Boston away from friends and family back home in Australia and we were always feeling very very guilty about never getting a birthday card to our friends and family back home but leading very busy lives as well and so having to rush out to a card store and get a stamp and then make sure you’ve got the correct address and getting it all together was just such a big challenge and so we sat around one day and came up with a concept. How can we make it easier to send greeting cards and not only send greeting cards but send really fun, funny, humorous, beautiful, well made greeting cards. Not the average card that you get in the local drug store. Host: Now, let’s talk about how much this costs for someone wanting to sign up? Katherine: Yes. Essentially, membership is free so you can set up your planner for free. You can have all of your birthdays and addresses and everything ready to go for free and then you just pay for each card that you buy and the average price of a card is $3.50 so exactly the same as a card store and then you pay for the stamp. You can choose either a domestic stamp or an international stamp. Host: So you can send them anywhere? Katherine: Exactly, yes. Host: Everyone’s going to think you’re so on top of all the events of all your family members, you’ll never forget any of them again. It’s kind of like a personal assistant. Katherine: It is. It’s like a card concierge for you so you don’t have to worry. You don’t have that guilt on your shoulder anymore that I forgot mom’s birthday or I really needed to send a card to my niece for her birthday. It’s also just a fun experience because selecting the cards in the first place is really, really fun because they’re very fun cards and then you receive the card yourself before you actually send it.
