Learn About Aphrodisiacs For as long there has been love there has been the illusive search for the perfect love potion that is the Aphrodisiacs. The word Aphrodisiacs comes from the name of the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. And it seems every civilization has its favorites from carrots to avocados I’ve heard that one before, cucumbers of course oysters even hot chili peppers and chocolate. Legend has it that the Aztec Emperor Montezuma has consumed 50 golden goblets of hot chocolate everyday in an attempt to increase his sexual powers. After imagined increased his waistline more than anything else. More recently, in the 70s, the story went around that green covered chocolates would increase your libido. Nobody is sure how the myth got started but to this day around Valentine’s Day you can get bags of green only once. But do any of these really work? Let’s breakdown some of the more common ones and see what they got. Let’s first consider the oyster perhaps an unlikely food to get anybody in the mood but oysters are rich in amino acids which have been shown in LAM studies to increase the production of sex hormones in laboratory animals. They’re also very high in zinc which contributes sexual health. And of course there’s chocolate. Chocolate boost your levels of phentolamine and serotonin. This trigger endorphin which makes us feel good of course chocolate makes everybody feel good just from the taste so there must be something to that. Some people think that chili peppers help them feel the love. They contain capsaicin which what gives them their spicy character that also stimulates the production of feel good endorphins. I think maybe all have that in salad. In the final analysis Aphrodisiacs are probably wore the stuff of legend than they are the stuff of love but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t serve chocolates for your love one come Valentine’s Day. After all, I think any food cooked with love is going to bring you love.
