Leaders and Young People Celebrating Child Rights in Zimbabwe Children coming from all around Zimbabwe joined with the rest of the world to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the convention on the rights of the child. The commemoration of the COC in Harare in November 20th gave the opportunity for the countries leadership to reaffirm their commitment to the rights and welfare of Zimbabwe children. Zimbabwe was among the first group of countries to ratify the COC without any reservations. Since the country has made this commitment to children, there has been significant progress in areas of education and health delivery. However, the political and economic instabilities of 2008 hindered the development made for the children. Children presented to the countries leaders a petition that underscore the urgent need to create an environment in which their voices are heard and for actions taken for them to be done with them. The leaders pledge their commitment to the creation of child friendly environment which would ensure equal opportunities for all children regardless of their social background. This is Natasha Hiekel reporting for UNICEF television, unite for children.
