Janet Jackson Interview Audra Lowe: Janet Jackson made an acting comeback in Tyler Perry’s "Why did I Get Married 2" and it’s a good one. Rhiannon learns more about the shy star including how she’s using personal experiences in her work. Rhiannon: Janet Jackson gives and emotionally raw performance as a grieving mother on the brink of divorce in "Why did I get Married 2." Shooting was underway last June when her brother Michael died. Writer-Director Tyler Perry applauded Janet’s strength in the face of that loss. Tyler Perry: It’s her own personal experiences, her own marriages, her own—things she was going through with her brother, the passing. I think she took everything and brought it to work and it was so great for her to have this catharsis. Janet Jackson: It was very tough at times, very draining. It was very clean and very cathartic at others. Rhiannon: Cathartic because she was drawing on real life experiences. Janet Jackson: With so many scenes for sure, the grieving and the passing and the divorce issues. I’ve done that twice. And it’s not an easy thing. Rhiannon: Another challenge she’s faced, her weight. I n her first book, true you, out later this year, Janet describes her struggle with the scale and mush more. Janet Jackson: I decided to start from the beginning. It’s not that I don’t know happy food but to talk about my childhood and some anecdotes that we have triggered—some of those things. Rhiannon: On screen, her character writes the book on relationships but her real life advice is grounded inexperienced. Janet Jackson: One time, it comes to a lot of these - to want to bail out and it’s always work in progress and there are going to be peaks and we have to stick well if you really want it to be there. You really want to be there. Rhiannon: Janet also has a brand new song called “Nothing” on the soundtrack of Why did I get Married 2 which is now in theaters. For Better, I’m Rhiannon.
