Interview with GlasVegas Rebecca Brayton: How did GlasVegas originally got together? Caroline McKay: I was friends with the boys and we used to hang out and listen to music and get drunk and stuff. Rab Allan: Most of us still aren’t musicians. I’m a womanizer. She’s a fashion guru. Paul plays computers. And James, I don’t know what he is. Caroline McKay: All of the above. Rab Allan: Yeah all of the above. We would go to clubs or pubs and no one would be playing the music we liked and Caroline did. So we would go to Caroline’s house and drink all her booze. Caroline McKay: It would save us money because we didn’t any money. Rab Allan: We didn’t have any jobs, so we didn’t have any money. Rebecca Brayton: How would you guys classify or describe GlasVegas sound? Rab Allan: I’d like to think it was soulful, you know and it was quite meaningful. Caroline McKay: Just that it’s loud and it’s big. Rab Allan: She’s the loudest out of all of us. You go up on stage we all play it’s not too bad and you go to Caroline and its like— Caroline McKay: Your monitors are phenomenal. The noise coming from your amps. Rab Allan: We’re having to put Caroline on the in-ear monitors because hers are so loud. Rebecca Brayton: Is tough being the only girl? Caroline McKay: Yeah it is. It’s tough on both sides, you know. Its tough being the only girl when it’s all boys farting and shagging girls. Rab Allan: She hates girls equally as much sometimes. Caroline McKay: I just hate everybody. Rab Allan: Especially some of the ones that come on this bus. The look on your face some mornings. Caroline McKay: They're in my house. Good morning trollop. What are you doing here? Rebecca Brayton: How did all these changed or evolved since you guys started? Caroline McKay: We play a song all the way through now, which is always an advantage. Rab Allan: I guess we’re probably better musicians now. We were really bad at the start now we’re just a bit better. The thing is, some bands come and they're amazing they’ve got nowhere to go. We came out and we were terrible, so there was a lot of room for us to get better. Caroline McKay: A lot of improvement you know. Rab Allan: And everyday we’re getting better and every day we continue to get better, which is a sign of a good bad I think. You know it changes and it progresses. Rebecca Brayton: It’s easy to describe your rise fame as somewhat mediocre, has been that difficult to deal with at all? Rab Allan: It’s always felt normal and natural although obviously there’s times when things dip and you get a little bit down or you know things are tough, which is natural because we've been on the for a year and a half you know. So we miss our families and we miss our friends. I'm actually not looking forward to stopping now. Caroline McKay: I'm dying to stop just for a wee while Rab Allan: She’s a woman so she needs different things than a man would need. So she needs to see her friends and things like that, which is fine. And I need to go find a woman and have some good times on a beach. You know everyone is into different things. When we do stop, we will reflect on it and look back and it will just be crazy.
