Increased Fertility Treatments and Multiple Births Risk Definitely multiple gestations are increasing in this country most dramatically over the past 20 years or so, mostly with the advent of assisted reproductive technology, IVF and other type of procedures. What we have been getting a plateauing on is our higher order multiples. So we are not getting as many of the triplets and quadruplets as we did ten years ago, mostly because of changes in practices of number of embryos transferred and things of that nature. So overall, still a high and increasing instances of multiple gestation, but a plateauing of the higher order multiple gestations, which is what we would desire.
