UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has sworn in UNICEF’s new Executive Director Anthony Lake at UN headquarters. Anthony Lake: I Anthony Lake solemnly declare and promise to exercise in all loyalty, digression and conscience the functions entrusted to me is an evidential civil servant of the United Nations, to discharge its functions and regulate my conduct for the interest of the United Nations only in view and not to seek nor accept instructions in regard to the performance of my duties from any government or any other source external to the organization. I also solemnly declare and promise to respect the obligations incumbent upon me and set out in the staff regulations and rules. Ban Ki-moon: Congratulations. Anthony Lake: Thank you so much.
