Violent conflict, earthquakes, tsunami, floods, in just a few minutes, a child’s life can change forever. Emergency stripped from the most vulnerable what little certainty they have. But amidst the ruins, the chaos and the pain of destruction and loss, there’s a place of safety, a sanctuary where normal life can be glimpsed again, where survival skills can be learned and the trauma that scars young minds can begin to heal. In an emergency, school provides the opportunity for all children no matter how marginalized, to realize their right to an education. Because in an emergency, school is more than just books, more than just lessons, more than a safe space. In an emergency, for those who’ve lost everything, school is nothing less than a lifeline. When the world is in turmoil, education transforms lives.
