How to Use a Gadget to Slice Your Vegetables Narrator: Fine Living Network, Smart Tips with Chef Jill Davie. Jill Davie: Have you ever wondered how chefs make those delicate beautiful slices of vegetables you find in your salad? Well here are some tips that will help you get the same results at home. The most common way to slice a vegetable is to just use the knife. But if you don’t have great knife skills, that can be a little time consuming. So, an easy alternative is to just grab your potato peeler. This is an easy way to add vegetables to dishes without adding large unappealing chunks. A more specific tool for cutting your vegetables is the mandolin. Mandolins range greatly in price. Some sell for over $200.00. And I like to use the simple one, just like this that cost around 25 bucks. As you can see, mandolins are precision cutting tools, turning your salad into art. Your meals will now have a professional touch with very little effort. Narrator: For more, go to fineliving.com/SmartTips.
