Dawne: I am Dawne from Buffalo, New York and I have a question. My child has started biting people when he is angry. How do I get him to stop? Shari Barkin: Dawne, this problem of biting for toddlers is a common one and it comes from feeling really frustrated but being preverbal not being able to expressed yourself with your words. So children when they are preverbal and young like this will strike out, they'll hit,. they'll push, they'll even bite. If you understand the rude of the problem which is your child wants to tell you something, you might be able to teach them other ways to express themselves. So for example, we know that teaching children baby sign language allows them to tell you what it is that they are thinking and this cuts down on aggression such as biting.
