How to Start a New Business in Tough Economy Beth Haselhorst: You’ve decided you want to start your own business but is one business better than another, what is a good business to start. To answer that question for us is Tim Berry, successful business owner, author and consultants of company such as Apple Computers. Tim is the founder of Palo Alto Software which produces the nation the leading business planning software and he has delivered business seminars for entrepreneurs in 15 countries on four continents and he’s here with us today. Welcome to sbtv.com Tim. Tim Berry: Thank you Beth. Beth Haselhorst: First of all what makes a business a good business resort. Tim Berry: Look at the mirror, I get this question a lot and I mean I sound glib but look in the mirror. The good business to start is the one that matches who you are, what you know how to do, what you like to do, what resources you have so it’s kind of one of those things where I end up answering a question with another question but really I think that’s so common that we have to deal with but its not the right way, it’s not that there is good businesses or bad businesses, there are businesses that you can do and that you want to do and of course the third big there is that business is that somebody wants what your selling to. Those things come together and create what’s the good business and what’s the good one for you. Beth Haselhorst: Does the state of the economy affect the types of businesses you should be considering? Tim Berry: I think that’s probably a misconception occasionally you’ll get something where because the stock market has done this or to her has done that or whatever. There will be business opportunities that arise as the result of events but usually your business opportunity is so much a function of you and who you are and there again whether it’s the economy or not, the people want what you want to sell them. Is there a need that’s really crucial something? Beth Haselhorst: Right great advice and deciding on what the good business is to start. Thanks a lot Tim Berry.
