How to Save Money on Household Items Audra: You don’t have to spend a lot to have great style for many household items actually people can’t tell the difference. Our lifestyle expert puts Rhiannon to the test and shows her how to find those expensive looking items but for less. Rhiannon: We all want nice items for our home, but we don’t want to spend a lot of money but if you think you can spot the expensive versus the cheap you might be surprised and guess who’s here to show us Mar Jennings. Mar: Surprise, surprise! Absolutely. Rhiannon: He’s going to show us how to spot those. Mar: We’re going to start right off with the beautiful shells okay. These shells are really very decorative and very attractive, one of them is $25 and 1 of them is less than $5 and I want you to hold them and take a look. The idea is you want to make sure you look at things. You pick them up. Is there any risk are there any tears are there any cracks, that gives you a really good basis to identify is this worth buying. Is it a deal? Rhiannon: This one has a few little cracks but seashells tend to be imperfect so it’s hard to I think this might be the expensive this is the cheap. Mar: Okay, bingo you did very well. Rhiannon: But this is so great, I like this one. Mar: Okay, okay and this one does have a little imperfection but you know what, you can find that in mother nature, mother nature is not perfect but it is a great inspiration color, texture it all works and you know what for 5 bucks it’s well worth it right? Rhiannon: Yeah. Mar: I’ll take it okay and how about some plates. There are two plates here and one of them is less than 5$ and the other one is for retail price okay around 40$. Rhiannon: I have looked at both of these plates they look identical to me. They are both the same weight so I have to think through the same price. Mar: It’s a trick; they’re actually the same manufacturer. The difference is that one of them comes from an off price store and one of them comes from a full retail store so the ideal is that if you know what you like photograph it. Remember put it on your cell phone and when you see the deal you know exactly that it’s the same item. Rhiannon: Okay so that one was 5 and that one was 45. Mar: Yes 40$. Rhiannon: Okay. Mar: Let’s talk about the glasses. Okay, there’s a 100$ glass and then there is a 2$ and 50 cents glass. Rhiannon: That’s a big difference. Mar: Big difference especially if you break glasses you’re going to yell at somebody if they break a 100$ glass, right. Rhiannon: I think this is the 100. Mar: Bingo, but you know what the silhouette is pretty much the same thing, okay. It is a wonderful glass, you put this on your table and it’s all about mix and matching if you have great china you can go ahead and put this and no one will know the difference, let’s face it right? Rhiannon: Why not spend 250 I’m all about that, okay. Mar: Let’s talk about sheets. Sheets could be very expensive, you can find them in the 100 of dollars and then you can find them for 39$ okay, the idea is you have to know what you’re looking for find the thread count, find what it’s made off. Is it cotton, okay, is it a combination. Once you know what you like you know how to find a deal so whether it would be a 100$ or 39 $ you know that’s really important and the price is substantial. Rhiannon: So don’t always go for the main brand because. Mar: Never go for the main brand. Go for the quality. Okay, go for the quality. Let’s talk about those pillows. Rhiannon: Okay. Mar: There is a $100 pillow and then there’s a $16 pillow, which one is which. Rhiannon: Well they’re both very soft but I tend to think this is more expensive. It’s got the studs. Mar: Finally got you, this is actually 16$. It’s a great inspiration what I was doing is I was picking up on the color. I wanted a down pillow. I love this one because it has some wonderful detail but it also felt very expensive but it was very well priced. You see I told you and the idea is that look for the quality if you like down, find a down pillow but make sure you pick up the colors of those expensive pillows or what you like and incorporate it in a better price. Rhiannon: It looks like I don’t have expensive taste. Mar: You don’t need expensive taste to have great taste and that’s very important. Rhiannon: Thank you so much Mar. You always have great taste. Mar: Well thank you. Rhiannon: You know who else have great taste. Mar: I wonder who? Audra! Rhiannon: Audra! Audra: Oh that’s sweet, thank you guys so much but no matter what your style I have to say I love finding a good deal too and I think a lot of people do.
