Melissa d’Arabian: I do not know about you but in my house, bread sits on the counter for at least a day. So why not have the bread sit here for a day and take home the savings by using the day-old bakery rack. Now if you think that you do not have one in your store I have surprise for you, check the dairy department. It is a huge high traffic zone and so often, the day-old bread rack will be in the dairy department not on the bakery department. So go figure. Here I got a bag at, I love to find a good deal on bread and even if I do not need it that day, I take it home and I just stick it in the freezer the very minute I get home. Then some time in the future when I am having a soup and salad night, I am telling you, pulling a bag at out of the freezer will elevate my soup and salad night into something special. So do not think that you just have to use it that day and if the bread is not sliced, do not be shy about going over to the bakery department and asking them to slice the bread for you. They can do thick, they can do thin, and however you want it do not cost you a penny more.
