How to Save Electricity in Summer Better Rhiannon Ally We all want to look better in our swimsuits too and summer days are just around the corner. With those high temperatures comes high energy bills Jeanette Pavini has ideas on keeping cool this summer in Better Ways to Save. Jeanette Pavini: Well you don’t have to blast your air conditioner or your budget to keep cool in hot weather. Shielding your rooms from the harsh summer raise can cut down on your energy bills. Draw the blinds or curtains when the sun is beating brightest and throw them wide open in the evening to let in the cooling breezes. You will pay less to keep your fridge cold if the freezer is defrosted regularly then vents aren’t blocked by dust and if it is full resist the urge to open and close the door more and your clothes dryer uses a lot of energy. Take advantage of the sun for lying drying to save even more remember that fans pull people not rooms, turn them off when you leave. Run fans in the bathroom to bent steam and heat and make sure the laundry room vent goes outside not to the attic. One of the best ways to save is with a programmable thermostat. You can set it to cool the house only when people are home. You can also program your thermostat to be one degree warmer every few days. Most people don’t feel an uncomfortable change when it’s done gradually. Your local power company has tips on their website to help save you energy and money in your area.
