Hi, everybody! I am Melanie Raposo and welcome to Mommy's Minute. When you are expecting twins, it's necessary to increase your nutritional intake even more than you would with a single pregnancy. In general, you should increase the amount of protein you eat and it is recommended to consume an additional 300 calories per day. It is also important to look for a doctor or midwife who has experience with multiple births and be prepared to visit the doctor more often than most pregnant women. Your doctor may also advise a carefully monitored weight gain of at least 35 to 45 pounds and because you will be working twice as hard, it is important to get twice as much rest. Make sure you take regular breaks from daily activities and try to get at least eight hours of sleep per day to ensure that your body is properly rested.
