How to Play Golf Like a Pro - Tee Box Rules Okay, Shawn Clement here from the Richmond Hill Golf Learning Center. We as a golf club, we like to put on an annual staff tournament so that’s where we mix up you know our teaching pros with some of the staff. You know the marshals and the food staff and all that. We get them all together when we do a match play that lasts through the season and it’s a lot of fun. The last batch I had, I had to get 21 strokes. I want to tell you that’s nerve wrecking. I have to take it all away and I had to play some nice birdies and some nice pars to manage my game properly because I was giving this individual at least one stroke per hole and on some of the holes that was a couple of strokes. One thing I noticed however is how much people don’t know some of the basic rules in golf and this series right here is going to be on that so we’re going to go over a few of the basic rules that you need to know. You really don’t want to get caught with your pants down in this game. Even in a friendly match you know when you’re out playing— with an individual let’s say it’s a corporate individual. This person is a good player and he invites you out to play and you say, “Well I don’t know. I don’t know enough about the game but I would love to go out there because I need this person’s business.” Well knowing the basic rules will go a long way into putting you in a good light versus this individual because it’s all about integrity. You know this game is all about integrity. So let’s start with the teeing ground. You have your tee blocks and you are allowed to tee your ball, 2 club lengths you can use a driver. No near the hole and you may not tee your ball just in front of the tee blocks. This is not an approximate thing so it’s either in between the tee blocks 2 club lengths behind. Now the reason why 2 club lengths behind real simple— Later on, today after they mow this and the golfers come out this area between the Tee blocks is going to get pretty beat up. Lot’s of divots so you don’t want to be— you know you want a fair stance on every tee box so to give everybody a fair stance you’re allowed 2 club lengths back. So instead of teeing back with your feet in the holes out here with all the divots move your ball back on to some nice ground and some nice grass and now you can use one of those divots as a reference point for alignment to get you where you want to go down the fairway. And just as a quick tip, at our golf course we try and our staff tries to make sure that these tee blocks are lined up properly and on some golf courses you’ll find that these tee blocks are not lined up at all. So do not pay attention to the tee blocks ever as far as aligning yourself toward the hole. You want to step back, pick a spot in front of the golf ball. It’s going to lead you to the center of the fairway. What I like to do is use the logo on my golf ball because I can manipulate the golf ball. I’ll take the line on the ball and line it up to where I want to go, step back, make sure I like the alignment of that and often times you’ll see that it really doesn’t jive. You see the tee blocks are lined up right into the bush so don’t pay attention to the tee blocks as far as playing the game but do pay attention as far as the rules, okay. So there’s a good start to go with. To see more of my 100 plus videos, please visit my website at www.shawnclementgolf.com
