Dr. Rene Hackney explains some tips on how to give your children verbal directions, and how can parents help children remember verbal directions
Host: How can parents help children remember verbal directions? Dr. Rene Hackney: You can help children to remember verbal direction by giving them in more animated ways. You might use props when we would go through the directions of making cookies, we would show kids the whisk and the ball and the eggs so that they could remember the directions because they saw them. You might as an adult also do movements. You might walk through the directions and show them what pouring the milk looks like. You might also draw pictures, drawing a picture of the ball, drawing a picture of the eggs and showing the pictures while you give directions, anything visual or physical that you can do when getting the directions to aid in the memory would be helpful.
