How the Lunar Cycle Is Connected to the Menstrual Cycle Linda: My name is Linda, I’ve live in Brooklyn New York and I have a family history of breast cancer, so I would like to know how to give myself a breast exam to screen for breast cancer. Sara: Excellent question Linda. Actually it’s very important for all women to have a clinical breast exam one’s a year in conjunction with an annual screening mammogram beginning at the age of 40. In addition it’s very helpful if a woman knows their own breast quite well. This could be done by performing a breast self exam one’s a month in the days following a woman’s period when the breast tends to be less lumpy bumpy. Women can start by looking in the mirror to examine for any skin changes or abnormalities or asymmetries between the breast and then palpating the breast themselves so that you get to know the normal bumps and lumps of your own breasts so that you can detect, tell your doctor if you detect an abnormality.
