P. Mona Khanna: It doesn’t really matter what the environment is if you see the child choking, it could be at home, it could be in the restaurant, it could be out in the part during a picnic. The things to remember with the child, first of all you want to make sure you exert enough pressure. The goal is to dislodge that piece of food or whatever has entered the windpipe over here. So if the person is 8 years old or younger that’s what we classify as a child and in this type of technique you want to turn that child around, and you want to use the heel of your hand right here it’s pretty firm and solid. And you actually want to hit four times below the neck and see if you can dislodge the particle in that way. Then turn the child around and do it again. One, two, three, four hopefully at the same time you or somebody else is also called the emergency responders through 911 and they’re on there way. You know we use to recommend that you sweep them out, you put there your finger in the mouth to see if the food particle had come out, we know longer recommend that because we feel that it may further lodge the food particle in the throat so you just continue to do this four on the back, four on the front until the particle is dislodge and the child maybe come unconscious so don’t be afraid if that happens and hopefully the emergency responders will arrive soon after that.
