Host: If age is a number how come our skin, hair, nails, teeth, and everything else seem to wither away as the number creep up, well New York Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Thomas Connelly is here. He’s got some answers and he’s going to show us how men and women of every age can easily get whiter brighter teeth good to have you here Dr. Connelly. Dr. Connelly: Thank you very much. Host: Nice to have you here to talk about the different age groups and then not only what happens when you are in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s but also what we can do because that’s the main thing. If we don’t realize it she would go through different stages. Dr. Connelly: Right. Host: In your 20’s you say that we start saying that the yellowing of the teeth is because of what we eat, right? Dr. Connelly: Really what we eat as the teeth erupt in the mouth, they have a natural stain to them, a natural discoloration so a lot of these things that we see in the 20s are from food and just basic stuff and bad hygiene so we are able to combat that with good toothpaste. Host: Okay. Dr. Connelly: A good bleaching and whitening toothpaste all wrapped into one that’s not harsh. Host: And what’s the difference between bleaching and whitening, whitening is like scouring surface stain remover, bleaching is actually getting into the tooth and changing that pigment. This is one and the only toothpaste that has both of them and has no abrasive in it. And I see you also have the crust of the white strips to. Dr. Connelly: And it’s great for pulling out that really minor stain, it was in the 20s and then the other we see with colors in the 20s as well see white spots from orthodontic work so it really change the color. We’ve got new infusion concept industry, no drilling, no anesthetic we’re able to remove those white spots very not invasively. Host: Because you have the braces and use to be permanent but now you got this so it works out right. Dr. Connelly: Right, right, that’s great now in the 30s you start to see a lot more internal stains. The stain is going to be a little bit more severe, we’re seeing the dentin the underlying layer behind the enamel pickup stain, we’re trying to see more yellowing and more cracks so we’re getting with a more professional products from your dentist. This is a great spray system some people can’t wear the trace with that in office laser systems. This is a tray system that you would sleep with at night. This dentist dispense systems are great at drawing up that pigment. Host: And that the kids that you use is does it have to be used for like the seven days, 10 days, does the amount of days really matter in terms of the results that you get. Dr. Connelly: It really does, you know what the studies have shown that duration is more important than concentration so smaller concentrations of a longer period has had really changed those pigments. Host: And what about teeth sensitivity because you always hear about you got to be careful because your teeth could be more sensitive after you use them what do you think about that? Dr. Connelly: It’s true, you know it’s something that we struggle within and that’s why I have had these different products really base some people can wear trace. Some can’t we got sprays we got paints we got lasers. We have really all different systems we can taper to each patient based on what their specific needs and if the sensitivity is. Host: No, when your 40’s and above you start getting more yellowing and then more sensitivity, right in yellow anterior as well. There’s gum here. What does this gum do? Dr. Connelly: When people get into their 40’s and 50’s just trying to take medications. A lot of times it affects the saliva flow so with less saliva your teeth are going to stain much easier so chewing gum and a regular base is a good sugar free gum and Xylitol is great for keeping the stain away. And then in the 40’s and 50’s well see more wearing or cracking. Sometimes whitening just doesn’t do it we need to revitalize those teeth so we’re doing souvenirs or actually taking a small amount of the tooth away and then placing porcelain over it. Host: Okay and you have a before and after photo of a patient in your office, we’re talking about veneers here right. Yes, yes. She looks amazing how long did that take? Dr. Connelly: Oh that’s two weeks start to finish basically its 20 veneers we’re putting a porcelain in the front of all those see the pictures she almost looks mother daughter so it is quite an amazing difference. Host: Right and looking at the before photo and after you wouldn’t think that that was the same mouth completely different mouth right. Dr. Connelly: We can do a lot. Host: Yeah you definitely can alright well thank you so much. Dr. Conelly. Dr. Connelly: Good to have you here thank you very much.
