How to Determine the Price of a Wine Bottle Byron: My name is Byron from Houston Texas, 27 years old and what I want to know is what determines the price of a bottle of wine? John Brandman: Well, the price of a wine by the bottle is based on several things. First of all, supply and demand. If it’s a really popular wine and there’s a limited supply available whether it’s due to local laws or just the wine growing methods, that certainly helps drive up the price. But a lot of marketing and merchandising goes into the pricing on wine. Certain wines such as many of the Bordeaux and the Burgundies and Napa Valley California wines, they tend to be more label conscious and many people seek after specific name brands just like with clothing. Don’t underestimate a lot of the wines that are less well known but no less excellent for not being recognized.
