[Music playing] Welcome to growing wisdom and today we are going to talk about opening up new bed in your lawn or your yard or somewhere and basically what I am showing you here is I got a fence behind me and there is really no bed here and lets just say that I wanted to open a new bed in this area. I brought a hose and you might think, what would you are doing with the hose? In order to lay the bed out, I am going to actually use this hose and what we are going to do is we are going to put this down and we are going to create curve with this particular hose. I want to make an s-curve with this particular hose. I want to make an s-curve with the hose. Why the s-curve? Well some would consider the s-curve one of the most beautiful curves in nature. One or two curves to the S is enough. If you have an area that is 200 or 300 feet, of course you are going to need more than that, but this is just a 50 foot area so I do not need multiple curves to the s. Generally, I got two curves in about forty or fifty foot area which is nice. If you have too many of them, it kind of jars the eye. It is not comfortable, it is not relaxing. Do not be afraid that you are taking too much lawn. Believe me, I have made this mistake, you put the bed in you take out the lawn, you put the plants in and it is not big enough. Make it a little bigger than you think you will need it. You will thank me later. Okay so last week in front of the other side of the driveway I did the same thing and I want to show you what that looks like. We are done with that and I begun to plant it. So let us go take a look at that. Alright so what I did was I took the hose in this area. I laid it out and then I took out all the sowed and you can use hand sowed cutter, you could gas power sowed cutter, whatever you can do. Obviously the gas one is going to be a lot easier. You remove the sowed and I took that sowed and I plant it in another place around the yard. I actually give some to my neighbors so as recycling the sowed a little bit and then I began to plant this. This is not done, it has a been mulch, I moved some things around from other areas of the garden that I know that needed moving. Falls a great time to do this because you can move things in the fall, it is a good idea when you open the bed up to really have a plan. One of the things that I do is I take old pot containers and I place them around in the areas where I think I want plants. We got some things that are going to bloom very early and some things that are going to bloom very late so that I will have color here all year round and I have also thought about what I can see from different windows in the house. So hopefully this has help you if you are thinking about opening a new bed. Remember use the hose. Make it a little bigger than you think you want it and you can also use the plants from around your yard. It is great way to move things around throughout the fall season.
