Male: Building a rustic log picnic table like this one can be a fun and relatively easy project for DIYers. Begin by choosing the material you would like to use. For a rustic look we’re using pre-cut walnut slabs for the table top and benches with 2 X 4s for support. Cut the material down to the length you want for the table then sand and plane the pieces for a smooth finish. The next step is making sure the table top is level. Lay the pieces face down on the flat surface then notch the bottom of each of the panels. Place 2 X 4s in the notch to open it and screw them into place. This will hold the table top pieces firmly together and keep them level. With the table top securely fastened, attach the legs to the 2 X 4s and in an A-frame securing in place with planks, screws and heavy duty lug bolts. For extra support screw a beam into the legs and to the middle of the table. Finally, finish the table with varnish or stain for protection against the elements. Now you’re ready for benches and a good meal.
