Sheryl: My name is Sheryl from Boston and my girlfriend just moved into my apartment a couple of weeks ago with her cats and ever since then I have been having terrible allergies. Is there anything I can do short of getting rid of her pets. Prianka Kapur: Well Sheryl, that seems to be a tricky situation. I think, having roommates that bring pets into the house, can certainly cause problems for other people that might be allergic, there are some options, however. Of course, getting rid of the cats would be the first most option because getting rid of that dander in the air will help control the allergies. But if that's not a possible situation, you can use things like antihistamines, nasal sprays and eye-drops that can help control the allergies locally. Another option is potentially getting put on allergy shots for cat allergy and that would be something that you could do in the long-term instead of taking medicines.
