How to Add Detail to a Drawing On behalf of tvlesson.com, my name is Jacklyn Laflamme and I'm a professional artist. In this clip, I'm going to show you how to add detail to a drawing. I have a rough outline of a tropical beach. So I just wanted to add some color into the water. And as you can see you can just take your marker and just start following the black lines in and just by putting in a few simple strokes, you can see that the water is starting to come to life. Just a few little strokes like this. Then we’re going to add some detail here to the palm trees, so I'm going to change colors and just go to my brown. And again, I'm just using the same technique were I'm kind of following the black outlines. And I'm going to leave a few white spots just to show some highlights in the tree. We’ll do the same technique here in the top of the tree. We’ll start off with a light green. And again, as you can see, I'm just coloring and following the palm tree here and putting in a few lines to show the highlights. I'm going to take a little bit of a darker green and just start following those lines too. And as you could see, the tree just by adding a few colors, the tree is really coming to life and giving that tropical feel. For the sand, I'm going to take a brown colored pencil and just show you a little bit of technique. And just by taking the pencil and putting in a little bit on the side just by default of the way the pencil goes on to the page. You get the detail of the sand. You kind of almost mix like the green in the sand come to life. Again, just like -- as you can see, you just hold the pencil to the side and go back and forth and you can fill in the entire beach area going over the marker. And what have you. Just go back to the water a little bit and add a few more little ripples with the blue. And as you can see which is the few simple marker techniques and color pencil techniques for the sand. You can add a lot of detail and texture to your drawing.
