Host: How can I manage my own anxiety as a parent after a school shooting? Dr. Hayley Sherwood: For parents, a school shooting may trigger tremendous anxiety, feelings of helplessness, anger and fears about their child's safety and well being. It is important to take steps to promote your own healing including talking about your feelings to release stress, getting plenty of rest and exercise, remembering to eat well, spending time with family and friends, as soon as it feels comfortable returning to a normal routine and doing something positive that will offer a greater sense of control such as volunteering or donating blood.
