How Energy Efficiency Programs Save Schools Money - Audrey Parker Erik Michielsen: Have you applied your energy efficiency expertise to improve the educational system here in Texas? Audrey Parker: One of the bills that I have helped to support and get passed allowed the electric utilities in Texas to offer a designated energy efficiency program to school districts, to school market. And schools had been eligible for energy efficiency programs in the past but typically many of them haven’t participated because they either didn’t know about it or the process for participating was too complex. Many times, school districts just don’t what they are, haven’t known what their options are or the people who may know them aren’t talking with the people who make the decisions on what equipment to purchase. And so a lot of times, we are just remedying not disconnecting and having the right people talk with each other and having an organization as a whole, take energy efficiency more seriously and make it a priority. That is the impact that I feel that we’ve had as we have raised the awareness in the market and we’ve helped a lot of school districts to save a lot energy and they’re excited to save more as more opportunities come up to replace equipment down the line. Thus, school districts make a priority. They want to save money. They want to save their operating dollars.
