Dr. Marianne J. Legato: Well, the implications of high cholesterol may be very different for men and women, more than their response to treatment. We now know that the powerful Statin Drugs, which are used in both sexes, are effective in both sexes, and so that’s a very important piece of information. The impact of high cholesterol, that is cholesterol over 260 in an elderly woman, a woman over 70, is probably less profound than it would be for a man. So we know that there’s a difference in the risk of high cholesterol in the elderly patient.
