Paediatrician, Dr Su Laurent explains how children learn to walk and says there's no 'normal' time by which they should be walking, so parents really shouldn't compare their child against others.

Judith Bennet: Georgia is 15 months old and she has just learned to walk, unfortunately her ambitions is greater than her ability, she does still water some but is very comfort into what she is doing. Dr. Su Laurent: It’s very interesting because you know what your first child to walk immediately and by the time you get your food, you are very keen to keep them on the floor and as if trouble. But many children will start walking by pulling himself up against a table for example and then doing what we called cruising which is to walk their way around the table holding on, and then they’ll actually take the plunge and they let go. Judith Bennet: I would say every three or four minutes though you do see her falling down plunking herself on her bottom and she is quite quick to get up back on her feet but again still a little wobbling. She is going to be more confirming on it so these are force inevitable. Dr. Su Laurent: The average age of walking is about 13 months and but some children start walkin at 9 months some they will walk till they are 18 months and all of that is normal. Its important to stress that it’s a huge range of normality, so comparing your baby to somebody else says may be very and help full.
