How Babies' Eye Color Change From Blue to Brown Daniela: Hi, my name is Daniela, I’m 20 years old. I’m from Miami, Florida. And I wanted to know why some baby’s eye color is changed from blue to brown after they’re born. Rachel Dodge: Hi, this is a very interesting question. And actually, so fair skin babies are often born with blue eyes that change color and the color is actually from increasing melanin which is a pigment that increases during the child’s first year of life. Melanin is also .found in skin, in the hair and it’s also found in the iris of the eye which is the part of the eye that actually has the color. Usually, the eyes have stabilizing color by the time the child is about six months in age and it’s believed that melanin production is actually starts when the child is exposed to sunlight. It’s also interesting that some children’s eye color will change a little bit more when they go through puberty too.
