Professor John Lazarus MD FRCP FACE Professor Clinical Endocrinology During pregnancy women who are on thyroxine generally need more thyroxine everyday than when they were not pregnant so what we tend to say is that they should immediately increase their dose by 50 micrograms. Now there’s a little bit of discussion about exactly how much you should increase but 50 micrograms I believe is a safe amount to increase providing the woman gets a blood test about four to six weeks later to check that or not got too much or not got to little.
