Maria: Hi my name is Maria. I am from Atlanta, Georgia and my question is how much help should I provide my children with their homework? Sara Sinal: Maria, I think the least help you can give, the better. Again it's age dependent. If you have a young child, calling out spelling words, listening to your child read is very appropriate. For an older child, I think the parental responsibility should be to provide a schedule environment where there is time for homework, where there is a quiet table with good light, and encouragement from the parent to do the homework but I think over involvement of parent with an older child, a middle school or high school aged child with homework, generally is not a good idea.
