Chris: Hi, I am Chris from Middletown New Jersey. I have a third grader with learning disability. I was wondering if there are any tips you can give me for homework strategies or anything like that? Albert Galaburda: I think it's very important to have the child well diagnosed and as part of the diagnostic testings experience, do get a plan from the psycho-educational specialist about the best way to teach this child both in the classroom and at home. You will find that depending on the kind of learning disability, the treatments are different. By and large however, you have to mix-up teaching to what the child is good at, with the parts that are difficult for the child so the child has, not just the negative experience with learning but also as reinforced in those areas where they are strong and as you know, with a learning disabilities, there are strengths, and there are also weaknesses and you can mix up one and the other, mix together one and other in the teaching program so that they have reinforcement and they feel good about themselves.
