Audra Lowe: October is officially Breast Cancer Awareness Month but most people assume pink products are made with the safest ingredients. But our next guest says that’s not necessarily the case with all the pink products out there. In fact some of them are made with harmful ingredients that are ironically linked to breast cancer. So here to tell us what we should be looking for is Suki Kramer, she’s an avid breast cancer activist and owner of a natural cosmetics company. Suki is serious about this when she helped convinced major companies to change the way they formulate their own products and now you’re here today to help out the public, so we can figure these all out right Suki? Because there’s a lot, you see the pink label, the pink ribbon kind of take for granted, but there’s a lot that we should really be looking at in terms what we are putting in our bodies. Suki Kramer: Absolutely yes. People should not just assume because something’s pink it’s good for you. Ironically a lot of those pink products are carcinogenic and yes that’s exactly scary. Audra Lowe: Which is scary? When you think, it’s not like they are like putting the claim out there saying, “Our pink product ribbon products do not include these ingredients.” You just kind of assumed that they would be safer, alright? Suki Kramer: Yes a lot of people do and if it has flowers on the label it’s automatically natural. I really try to encourage people they turn that product around, read the back panel, read the ingredients that doesn’t take much, you don’t have to be a scientist or chemist, just read the ingredients. Audra Lowe: I’ve been talking to quite a few people lately and a lot of them think people who do pay that much attention to labels are a little bit of a fanatic. They’re a little crazy saying, “You know when you’re going to die of something don’t worry about it, it’s just a few ingredients but you are putting the stuff directly into your body. Explain to people why it is so important. Suki Kramer: Yes, it really is important when you think about the patches that we use that doctors uses for medicine, estrogen sprays that give your body all the medicine it needs, you’re slathering stuff all over your body is getting directly into blood stream. It doesn’t pass through your liver like food does. That stuff is toxic. Audra Lowe: Now we are telling people what to look out for what not to do, but these are some products here that you consider safe, that you feel comfortable enough recommending to people. If you are looking for products that are for breast cancer awareness, and it also do donate money to the cause. Why don’t we start over here with these two products? Suki Kramer: Yes, well this is a queen canteen, that’s a water bottle actually and it’s seamless seal which is great much better than plastic, which I really don’t like. And then there’s the one with nature rose petal soap and the Boscia the blotting papers, those actually are clean and we are doing for October and November our best selling exfoliate foaming cleanser and our sensitive cleansing bar which are really for sensitive skin both really pure. And then some of my favorite products are Tom’s Badger balm and Weleda. These are some really clean products just that I like in general. Audra Lowe: So pay attention to the labels. Thank you so much Suki! Good to have you here. Suki Kramer: Absolutely, thanks! Audra Lowe: Alright, and no need for you guys who are at home to try to memorize all these Suki’s actually created an entire list of ingredients to avoid. It’s pretty handy to have for the next time you go shopping for beauty products.
