Halloween Costumes for Kids Audra Lowe: The candy stuff and the decorations are all ready, and now, it’s time for the perfect costume. Tony found a few ideas to get you all started in today’s Better Parenting. Heather Rose: I think it’s hands down better than Christmas. Tony Martinez: That’s right Santa. You’re on notice. Halloween is coming and it’s bigger than ever. Heather Rose: It’s a cool, cool holiday. Tony Martinez: Free candy is a great hook, but few can resist the chance to dress up. Heather Rose: And you get to be anybody you want to be. Tony Martinez: And this year, more than ever. There’s a costume to suit every taste. Heather Rose: We have all the way from newborn all the way up. Tony Martinez: Cute little babies just get cuter when parents dress them up, and there’s a trick to get into stay in that costume. Heather Rose: Depends on it if it has a hood or not. If there’s a hood, they’ll love it, the little ones, not so much. But you know they work with it, that’s alright. Tony Martinez: And the most popular costume for the newborn set? Heather Rose: Every parent says, oh, my little devil, so definitely the devil. Tony Martinez: When the kids always start choosing their own costumes, the When the is to go for the powerful and the pretty. Heather Rose: A super hero is definitely handsome, even girls. Iron Man 2, Batman, Superman, even Robin. Tony Martinez: But they say, most kids would be hitting the street to trick or treat so, costumes have to be comfortable, practical and safe. Heather Rose: You definitely try on before you leave so you know that your child is going to be able to see and walk, and talk. Tony Martinez: Costume makers were also stepping in with more innovative designs. Heather Rose: It’s reversible. So you could be the red Spiderman and it will be double lined so it’s extra warm, and then turn it inside out, and here’s a black Spiderman. They’re definitely made much better than it use to be. Tony Martinez: For middle school boys, they’re love a video games begins to show up in their costume choices. Heather Rose: I would say definitely video games. Right up there with Luigi and Mario, that kind of stuff is the older boys. Tony Martinez: Girls at this age tend to be more towards the sassy. Heather Rose: The older girls are hoping to do a little bit cuter. They’re out of the princess so they are off to the Alice in Wonderland or something else that’s a little shorter. Tony Martinez: And this year more than ever, they are kids who want to make their own unique costumes from scratch, especially for fans of anime. Heather Rose: There’s not a lot of anime stuff out there with the whole costumes, so that group of all ages from let’s say 10 to 25, they are piecing those anime come costumes together. Tony Martinez: So, lot’s of great costume choices for all ages. All they need is you. Heather Rose: I think this is the year to have a party. Tony Martinez: Of course you can never go wrong with a good old-fashioned scary mask, but when it comes to helping your kids pick out their own costume, you’re always balancing what’s safe and what's comfortable with what they’re going to really be excited about wearing. This year, if you want to be super trendy, Alice is the way to go. I'm Tony Martinez. Thanks for watching. Audra Lowe: Thanks a lot Tony. Remember one popular alternative to handing out candy this year instead you can give up silly bands. But, if you do that, keep in mind that a little rubber bracelets have become such a popular destruction that some schools have actually banned them.
