Doctor Ronald Turner discusses what are common colds, and if you can give any cold medicine to your children
Host: Can I give any cold medicine to my children? Ronald Turner: Well, I think first of all there are some treatments that are beneficial, that are still approved and recommended for the children and so, for instance, the analgesics to relieve pain symptoms and that sort of things. Nothing has been changed about the recommending or allowing the use of those treatments in children. The other thing is this that there are topical nasal decongestants, nose drops, nose spray, that can be used in younger children, that aren't covered by what was discussed at the FDA. The FDA ruling was really directed at the old therapies that are used specifically for common cold symptoms.
