The Gin Fizz, a delightful and refreshing cocktail. [Music-Playing] Welcome to the cocktail spirit from small screen network, I am your host Robert Hess. It used to be, there is a drink style that was quite popular known as the Fizz. There are different types of Fizzes you can order. You can have a Brandy Fizz or Rum Fizz. What I would like to do is illustrate to you what the Gin Fizz was. It is a very refreshing drink and quite frankly, I think it is worth rediscovering. So let us take a look at it. Gin Fizz starts out with some simple syrup, we have a quarter ounce of simple syrup. And one thing I will point out since in the comment section on some of my other shows, people have commented that the syrup I am using. This syrup is clear in color. On earlier episode, you might have seen me using slightly brownish colored syrup that is because I am using demurrer sugar. In this one since that was confusing people so much, I decided to use regular table sugar in this one. And so that is two cups of sugar to one cup of water. Simmer it until it dissolves, allow it to cool, then stick it on the bottle and then put a little of vodka or some like add into it just to make sure it is self stable. This is typically called a syrup because I am using two to one ratio. If it was a one to one ratio, which a lot of people use sometimes, one cup of sugar to one cup of water, simmer blah, blah, blah and so forth, then you just call it simple syrup, this is called a rich syrup. So, I gather the quarter ounce of simple syrup there. We are now going to take and add a half ounce of lemon juice. Now, this is a case where a little tiny strainer holes in this because lemons do have seeds and more lime nearly does it. So, let us go ahead and squeeze this in here and again, you noticed I am not squeezing straight into either the cocktail shaker or the measuring tool. I am straining into a separate container so that I can take in better control on how much lemon juice I use. You always want to measure your lemon juice. Recipes are juice of one lemon, juice of half a lime or something like that. I think this is kind of crazy because it is hard to tell from one lemon to another how much you are getting. And there you have a half ounce of lemon juice and now we are going to add one and a half ounces of gin. I am going to prep my glass here adding some ice to that almost but not quite filling it up. Now, with some ice in my shaker, once that is nice and chilled we take in and strain it into our glass. And now, the part that makes it a fizz is the addition of soda water. Now, if you look at the recipe for a Tom Collin, it is going to be extremely similar to this but there, they just simply top off with soda water here. What makes it a fizz is the fact that I am really going to take in and try to really get things fizz in. So I am using a soda syphon, these are available all over the place. The particular one, I got from kegworks.com. I can for kind of fans. It is a lot better just opening your bottle plus you can make it anytime you want. Now we are just take in, fizz in like that. I think that adds a bit of extra effort and essence to it so it is not just topping it off. Then we garnish it with a lemon twist or lemon slice and a couple of straws, and there we have the Gin Fizz. [Music-Playing] Hello!
