Jay Manuel: Hey I’m Jay from style her famous and watch as I show you how to get Nicole Richie’s 60’s inspired makeup look. Nicole Richie’s makeup style is all about that 60’ more defined eye which she softened it up just a little bit so it doesn’t look so dated and the she’s all about settle bronzing so it’s not terracotta. Susan Sturgis: All right. Jay Manuel: And it’s not too glittery and then that lip finishes it all. That’s kissable, glossy pink, it’s not defined, it is not heavy. So you know, you obviously have a little darkness under the eyes so what, I know that looks crazy right? But if you start with using your foundation right underneath your eye before concealer then blend it outwards, it won’t look as heavy. So it makes sense? Susan Sturgis: Yes. Jay Manuel: Because foundation has covering properties of its own. Now I have a little extra powder just sitting underneath your eyes. We’re doing that because you’ve got, you know, dark circles. If I let it sit there and then I do your eye shadow on top, anything that falls while you’re working with your eye shadow onto your skin, it can only enhance darkness so if you leave extra powder there which I did and we’re just hit it with a little bit more. When you leave the extra powder just sitting there, it looks a little Kabuki; it’s what I call it. But what it does is, it preserves the skin tone right there where it looks dark. And when we’re all done, you whisk it away; the magic looks prefect. Susan Sturgis: Okay. Jay Manuel: Well the real trick is to, is using a color that matches with your skin. Obviously, you’re tanned. Susan Sturgis: Right. Jay Manuel: But if you can see right here the, the settle bronzing I’m doing is exactly your skin tone. Susan Sturgis: Yes. Jay Manuel: Like exactly. And we can tell that by, if I dust, lift your chin up, I dust it along your neck a bit and it blends right in, that’s how we know that we’re totally matching your whole body. First thing I’m really doing here is just highlighting your brow bone a little bit. Susan Sturgis: Okay. Jay Manuel: Now to get that soft, crease, modern inspired eye, what we’re going to do is just, close your eye for a second, do you feel where I’m dusting this brush? I’m literally just taking a flat shadow brush, there is no major trick in here and all I’m doing is covering the base of your lid and just leaving the brush right in your crease. So you can almost feel, it’s like, it kind of caps the eyeball. Do you feel that? Susan Sturgis: You’re right, yes I can feel that. Jay Manuel: Now what Nicole does is, literally, she takes a soft brush just like I’m doing and I’m just hitting that crease and I’m not using a super dark eye shadow. I know you think that Nicole does really well and she knows how to open up here eye and so what we’re going to do is take a little bit of white liner. Now you probably think your white liner, that’s weird. Susan Sturgis: Right. Jay Manuel: But if you take white liner on the inside of your eye, it makes the eye look oh! And it’s really big. And when you, now I know it looks strange for a second but you’re going to blink a few times and then what we’re going to is we start blotting off in the upper lid and then it softens the white. Susan Sturgis: Okay. Jay Manuel: Do you see how your eyes look a little wider? Susan Sturgis: Yes and that’s big for me too because I was always considered, because I'm always looking like I’m too sleepy. Jay Manuel: Oh really? Susan Sturgis: Yes. Jay Manuel: So this is a good trick especially if you want to look awake; white liner. Susan Sturgis: Very good. Jay Manuel: Now Nicole uses a liquid liner on her top lid to really kind of give that defined eye. Susan Sturgis: Right. Jay Manuel: But I feel that that’s probably a little too severe for your look. Susan Sturgis: Okay. Jay Manuel: And what I’m going to do is use a straight edged brush like this and a dark shadow to give the same look and I think it will translate a lot better to you. The only thing you want to do is you definitely want to blot some of the excess off so that that shadow doesn’t pull down. Susan Sturgis: Okay. Jay Manuel: Because you’re, this is black shadow and you’re very fair and we don’t want to look like raccoon eyes. Susan Sturgis: Do you see how easy that is? Like, because you’re not worrying about the liquid liner. You just literally take that straight brush. Open your eye. Jay Manuel: Oh wow. Susan Sturgis: See it’s a little softer. Nicole has never caught dead without this glossy pink lip. Every once in a while, she try another color but this is here staple. And you know what, when it works for you, you rock in. How do you like it? Jay Manuel: I love it. I think it was very simply, you didn’t go overboard, I would just have to fill in my brows and make sure I have powder and a little bit of blush, gloss and mascara. Susan Sturgis: And settle bronzing define the eye and remember, if you’re nervous with liquid liner, just take a shadow and a flat edge brush along your top lashes and it will bring them out and that’s all it takes to get Nicole Richie’s look.
