Barry: Hi, my name is Barry and I'm from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and my question is, is there a gene for stress? Bruce Rabin: Barry, there is not a gene for stress. It is not hereditary. When we respond to something and our brain thinks it is stress. This is because of early life experiences we have, it is because we have had training to see that such and such a thing is stress, rather than when we experience that. Our parents saying, you know, that's not such a bad thing, take a couple of deep breaths and calm down. It is learnt, it is not hereditary, it is not genetic.
