Fish in the Millpond Taught by Eric Thompson You know Doc Watson’s father-in-law, his name is Gaither Carlton and he’s a wonderful all-time fiddle player and I like to do a tune now that they use to play together called Fish in the Millpond. [Demonstration] Okay, well that tune is in the key of D but you probably noticed it starts on an A chord. I'm just plucking my finger down like this in the position that you would use if you were making a long A chord and holding it there for the first part of the melody. So I'm going to break it down into little pieces again. Here we go—the same thing again— [Demonstration] And then, you can hold your D chord while you play this part and just move the fingers that you need to move to play the melody part and the other part will ring— [Demonstration] The first part again, the second part, Once more—the second part again. [Demonstration] All right, now in the middle we’re going to go to the split screen and I'll play the melody. Then play the rhythm part for you. Melody again and rhythm part again. You take the lead. You take it again— Go on home— [Demonstration]
