Yelp is more than just a user-review aggregator for restaurants and services; it's a community. You can find and friend people who share similar tastes and interests as you or go searching for your real-world friends to see what they think.

Finding Friends on Yelp: Connected with other users on Yelp helps you see what everyone else is up to all over the city where you live. If you want to find your friends on Yelp then you can click on search members and entering their nickname, their main or their email address. Once you find the person you know, you can choose to compliment them and this can be for many things like you think they’re funny, they are good writer, you like their picture or just a plain old thank you. Then you can add a note down here and send it. You can also send them a private message which works on the same way as sending an email only you don’t need to know their email address. And then you can add them as a friend and follow their reviews. Following users reviews allow you to visit your profile. Click on following and see all of the most recent reviews from the person on Yelp. This way you’ll never miss one of their reviews. You can find all of your friends in your profile, so you can keep up with them and easily visit their profiles. If you want to invite a friend or family member to join you on Yelp, just click on invite friends entering their email address and names, and write them a message. You can check this box to have Yelp, send them a reminder if they haven’t responded in three days and then click on send invite.
