Kathryn: Hi! My name is Kathryn from Orlando. My five-year-old son walked in while my husband and I were having sex, how shall I explain this to him? Michael Steiner: Kathryn, good question and a very, very difficult question. I think this question is going to be more difficult actually for us as adults to deal with because of the embarrassment associated with the situation. Luckily your son is five-years-old and developmentally I don't think that he'll really understand what intercourse is. What I would do is, if that situation happens, ask your son to step out of the room and go back to their room, and then if you feel more discussion needs to be done about, go reassure them that mom and daddy aren't mad at each other and that they love each other. In the future, you'll have more hard issues to deal with, with your son about this question. But at this time, just make sure you don't overreact.
