Brian: My name is Brian and I am from Dayton, Ohio. I have a son who is studying high school this year, and I was wondering what would be a safe age for him to start taking rides from trends or his friends’ siblings, that would keep him safe from being in auto accidents? Shannon Croft: Brian, unfortunately there is no way to keep your child perfectly safe in this. But really the issue isn't the age of your child as much as the age of the driver. It's pretty clear that the time at which early drivers are at greatest risk of an auto accident is in their first year of driving. So if you want to do everything you can, I would make sure that your son has limited time riding in the car where the driver is in their first 12 months of driving experience.
