Host: When it comes to giving gifts, not everything fits neatly into a box. We’re going to show you some very clever ways to wrap unusual shaped objects so they look fabulous and we’re going to show you how right now. So you want to wrap a bottle of wine but you don’t necessarily want to put it in a gift bag. Everybody does that. Instead, we’re going to turn that bottle of wine on its side and make it look like a Chinese firecracker or piece of candy. To wrap this bottle of wine, we’re going to use tissue. We’re going to put the wine bottle on its side, right on the center. Notice you’re leaving enough on the sides to get that a little poofed out. The little candy end—we’re going to roll it just like that all the way to the end. And we’re just going to put one piece of tape right in the center and to give it that true candy look or Chinese firecracker look, we’re going to then wrap it in cellophane. We’re going to start at the same seam and just line up the end and we’re going to roll it and I like going around twice just to make sure that every little bit of tissue is covered. So to cut the cellophane, you’re inclination will be to slide the scissors all the way through. But it tends to get caught and can tear so instead, simply take your time and snip along your cellophane and we’re just going to put another piece of tape right on that same seam where we started. Now, it’s time to gather up the ends. But first you’ve got to trim the cellophane. I’m just going to go for it. I’m going to cut right there. Make a slit and then cut all the way around just lining it up with that edge of the tissue. So now, we’re going to bunch up the ends to make it look like candy. We’re going to scrunch it like this around the neck of the wine bottle. For this end, it will bunch up all the way because the neck of the wine bottle isn’t there. It could be really cute to use a thick ribbon, something wide, maybe an inch or two and then just tie it in a simple knot on each end. I love how this turned out. They’ll never suspect it’s a wine bottle. How many times have you needed to wrap something round? Maybe something like this but you don’t have a box, we’re going to show you a special tip. It’s fabric. We choose silk shantung for this one because we think it’s a really gorgeous fabric. And to know how much fabric to use, you’re going to use twice the diameter of the object you’re wrapping. What I mean by that is you’ve got this much fabric for the object you’re wrapping and the same amount coming off the end. Center the object in the middle of your square and bring opposite corners together. So you have all four corners up at the top and then you’re going to pinch tightly around the ball shaped object. Then we’re going to tie this up with wired ribbon. Now, all you have to do is tie a simple knot and just pull it tightly. This is wired ribbon so I can make curls out of it and then I’m going to poof out the top. It’s transformed. This technique works for any sized object like this small candle that we saw earlier and this larger object that we wrapped in red for Christmas. So just use fabric to wrap around objects and you’ll get beautiful presents each time. When wrapping geometric shapes, it’s a good idea to use foil gift wrap. It holds its shape, makes great creases and here’s a great tip. Put a medallion sticker where all the points come together for a perfect finish. So have fun creating your own gifts and your gifts will be the life of the party.
