Hi this is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder and welcome back to our special Butterscotch camp series in creating your website 101. In this segment we’re going to look at name servers. Now for the most part, if you register or purchase your domain name and host with the same company, you won’t have to concern yourself with name servers because they're already be set because the company that sold you the domain is also now going to host it. And in case like this tutorial where we purchased our domain, registered it with hover and now we want to host it and myhosting.com we need to make sure that the name servers point to the right place. The domain name servers DNS are what tells the internet where your site is. So when you first get your domain if you go to it, there is nothing there because nothing is pointing to it. So in this control panel, most control panels are similar, they obviously won’t be exactly the same but you’re going to want to look for something that says, “Name Servers DNS or Domain Name.” Now here you see Domain Name, so click on it. Here is DNS Management, we don’t want to list them, we don’t want to renew them, and we want to manage the domain names. When you Sign up with the host, they will send you at least one email if not more. Whether they will give you information about how to get in email and what you are DNS Settings are. So in a case where you purchase your domain from one place and you are now going to host it in a different place, you’ll need to have this information because here are your Name Server Settings. And it tells you exactly what they have to be, a word and an IP address primary and secondary. You would take this information, you would go back to the DNS MANAGEMENT page and you will see here that the NS5.softcomca.com is right in place. So our name servers are correct, if they were not correct you would put in the once that you have been send by email, enter them and submit them. Generally, once you’ve updated the name servers, your website pages would be visible within 24 to 48 hours. So have to allow for sometime and in some cases it is faster, some cases takes longer. So you have to fix the Name Servers so that they point to where your site is going to be. That is Name Servers. Keep in mind that this is multiple part series and be sure to watch all the parts.
